El Al has announced that it has reversed its decision not to pay commission to travel agents for the sale of flight tickets between Ben Gurion Airport and Eilat. For now El Al intends to pay commission to travel agents at a rate of 7% in accordance with the standard commercial contracts between two parties.
In the original plan for the route to Eilat, which was launched a couple of weeks ago, no clause was included for paying travel agents commission for the sale of tickets to Eilat, on the grounds that these tickets are already inexpensive and are being sold via the El Al website. That decision led to resentment among travel agents, with some threatening not to cooperate with the new venture.
According to El Al, “Following inquiries and discussions with many executives and travel agents, two important decisions were taken in regards to agents. The payment of commission on El Al flights to Eilat and the cessation of discounted direct sales on flights for those not related to an El Al employee under the El Al Family program.”
“The issue has been raised during several meetings and conferences held with travel agents and as an act of goodwill El Al has agreed to limit the service to relatives of El Al employees only. As a result of this move we are further strengthening our cooperation with the travel agents,” remarked the El Al spokesperson.
